Your calculator inputs stay in your browser. EMS receives technical website requests and any information you choose to send us by email.
Who we are
ECONOMICS MADE SIMPLE LTD operates this website and is responsible for the personal information described here. We are registered in England and Wales, company number 16209703.

What information is used
- Calculations
- The figures you enter into our calculators and interactive diagrams are processed in your browser. They are not submitted to EMS. Reports and worksheets are generated on your device.
- Saved work
- The Questions Bank remembers which questions you add to your paper in this browser. Saved take-home pay scenarios are held in browser session storage. The document viewer remembers each PDF’s page and zoom during your browser session. These are not an EMS account or an online record of your work.
- Play with friends
- If you start or join a game in the Questions Bank, the name you type and the answers you choose are sent to our game server, which runs on Cloudflare, so everyone in the game sees the same questions and scores. If you press “I don't understand, please explain”, only the teacher hosting the game can see that you asked and your game name; classmates are not notified. They are held only while the game runs and are deleted when it ends. We keep daily totals of games and players, but not names, answers, help requests or game codes. The results picture is made on your device and is only shared if you choose to share it.
- Website requests
- Cloudflare hosts and protects the site. Delivering a page involves technical information such as your IP address, browser details, requested address and the time of the request.
- If you contact us, we receive your email address, any name you provide, your message and attachments. Please send only what we need to help you, rather than personal financial documents or identifiable student records.
We do not currently offer user accounts, collect payments through this site or operate a mailing list or customer database.
Why we use it
We use correspondence to answer your question, deal with feedback and resolve problems. We use hosting and security information to deliver the website, protect it and understand basic traffic levels.
Our lawful basis for these activities is our legitimate interest in running a reliable website and responding to people who contact us. Where we must retain or disclose information to comply with a legal obligation, that obligation is the basis for doing so.
We do not sell personal information, use your enquiries for marketing or make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Cookies and browser storage
The site does not currently use advertising cookies or client-side analytics trackers. Cloudflare may use security cookies when needed to protect the service; its cookie information explains these.
The Questions Bank uses local storage to remember your paper between visits on the same browser. The Take-Home Pay Calculator uses session storage for saved scenarios. Play with friends uses local storage to remember the game you are in and the name you chose, so you can rejoin if your connection drops. These features store data on your device and do not send it to us.
You can remove this information by clearing this website’s data in your browser settings. Doing so removes saved work. Files you download remain wherever you save them until you delete them yourself. On a shared device, clear saved work when you have finished.
Who handles information
Cloudflare processes technical request information to host and protect the site. Email service providers handle the delivery and storage of messages you send us. We may also disclose information where the law requires it or where necessary to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.
Cloudflare operates an international network, so information may be processed outside the UK. Its data processing terms describe the applicable safeguards, including contractual protections for international transfers. Contact us if you would like further information about the providers handling your correspondence.
If you follow a link to an exam board or another website, that organisation’s privacy notice applies to your visit there.
How long we keep it
Routine email enquiries are deleted within 12 months after they are resolved. If a message is needed for an ongoing complaint, a legal dispute or a legal record-keeping requirement, we keep the relevant information for that purpose and review it when that need ends.
Play with friends names and answers are deleted when the game ends, and at the latest two hours after its last activity.
Hosting and security records follow the retention controls of the relevant Cloudflare service. Browser storage and downloaded files remain under your control as explained above.
Your choices and rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, restrict its use, object to processing based on legitimate interests, or receive a portable copy where that right applies.
Email info@economicsmadesimple.com to make a request. You do not need to create an account. We may need enough information to confirm your identity, and we normally respond within one month.
You can complain directly to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). You do not have to contact us first.
Students and changes to this notice
Students can use the current resources without registering or providing their name, school or date of birth. If you are a parent or guardian with a question about a child’s information, contact us using the details above.
We will update this notice when our services or data practices change. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
